About Readers Retreat

Meet our Founder, Alison Rogers, PhD.

I am an avid reader of an eclectic range of books and a writer of different genres. My first book review was published in 1988 when I was 11 years old. Since then, I have written a thesis drawing on social psychology, published a book on the non-profit sector, produced over 15 articles for academic journals and blogs, and contributed to the e-newsletter of EcoNetwork Port Stephens. I have an Arts degree in Philosophy, a Diploma of Secondary Education and Masters degrees in Public Health and Evaluation. I am currently writing a book for Routledge Press on Everyday Activists and have a secret desire to become a writer of television comedy scripts. Exploring ideas, research, evidence, creative fiction, stories, and poems helps me to understand more about the world view of others and see different perspectives. My passion is introducing people who can help each other and find ways of synergistically working together.

  • An Opportunity to Connect

Readers Retreat invites you to contact us about what you would like to see and do at your local bookstore. We would like to hear from you about the type of books you like to read and the type of events and workshops that you would be interested in attending. Our purpose is to unite those in search of social connections, so as a first step we would love to hear from you so you can help shape what this bookshop can become.
